The "IBDealing With It!" Program

Next session Spring 2013.
The 3C Foundaiton of Canada offers the "IBDealing With It!" program to the IBD community (those touched by Crohn's disease and colitis) to help teach people the skills needed to live well with these chronic conditions. This free program is a series of 6 highly interactive, small group format workshops with both an education and support component, emphasizing coping strategies and practical skills such as:
- Managing your symptoms
- Techniques for reducing stress
- Dealing with difficult emotions such as fear, anger, frustration, and depression
- Establishing good exercise and nutrition routines for maintaining and improving strength
- Learning and practicing relaxation techniques
- Optimally managing medication use
- Communicating effectively with your health care team and loved ones
- Managing pain and fatigue
- How to evaluate treatment options
- Goal setting and problem solving
IBDealing With It! is the Chronic Disease Management Program (CDSMP) developed at Stanford University and is now offered in multiple languages throughout the world. Trained and certified volunteers who have chronic inflammatory bowel disease themselves facilitate the IBDealing With It! workshops. More than two decades of research shows that CDSMP can make a real difference; participants' who complete the workshop often feel less fatigue and pain, have fewer emergency room visits and hospital stays. Many people find they have higher energy levels, use better coping strategies, and feel greater confidence when communicating with health care professionals.
We aim to enrich and empower the lives of those in the 3C Community by providing the tools necessary to live healthier and to better self-manage their Crohn’s disease, colitis and/or colorectal cancer.
